What are the regulations in the US regarding personal/homeschool use of lab equipment/supplies?
We're planning to homeschool our children in science in NYS.
I know that many of the supplies traditionally available to the amateur chemist (even some glassware, balances, water baths) have been removed from the market due to various concerns, but I'm worried that many of these might remain unavailable to us as home educators as well. I come from a scientific background and don't want to shortchange my kids.
So I guess I have two questions:
1) What sorts of supplies usually found in a high school chem/biology setting will we *not* be able to use at home, period?
2) Will we be able to purchase needed supplies for demos/experiments a la carte directly from lab suppliers as home educators, same as for a public school science lab?
We don't want to use only prepackaged kits but were very disappointed by the chemistry sets now on the market for home use! Any information about regulations and individual experiences with with teaching chemistry and cell bio, etc. at home is appreciated.
